Effect | Penaten® Cream

Effect

The effect of Penaten cream is mainly due to the above mentioned active ingredients (zinc oxide, natural wool grease, panthenol). In this combination, they simultaneously support wound healing, protect the skin from excessive moisture and form a long-lasting protective barrier. Wound healing is mainly supported by zinc oxide and panthenol.

Zinc accumulates in high concentrations in skin cells and supports numerous processes that are important for the healing of wounds. Among other things, zinc influences the formation of a network of fibrin, which forms a first temporary wound pad. Panthenol also leads to regeneration of the skin with the formation of new skin cells.

To this end, panthenol is converted in the body into the important vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). At the same time, existing itching and burning can be relieved. Zinc oxide also has a slightly antiseptic effect, which protects against infection by bacteria or viruses in the wound.

The natural wool fat (linolin) is a waxy fat which gives the cream its typical consistency. It is similar to the body’s own fat and causes water to be stored in the upper layers of the skin. It thus protects the skin from drying out.

Side effects

The manufacturer of Penaten® Cream does not mention any side effects on the can or in the frequently enclosed brochures. In rare cases, however, patients may develop rashes due to an allergy to various ingredients of the cream. Especially the fragrances used for a long time as well as some preservatives are frequent causes for the development of an allergy.

In addition, some preservatives have a hormone-like structure and therefore a slight hormonal effect is discussed. For this reason, numerous fragrances and parabens (preservatives) have been completely removed from the products in the last decades. However, some products still contain small amounts of individual preservatives (e.g.B.

Phenoxyethanol), which prevents the penetration of germs after opening the product. When using Penaten® Cream, care should be taken to ensure correct application. Penaten® Creme is not suitable for the treatment of all skin diseases and can sometimes worsen the symptoms significantly. For this reason, a treatment with Penaten® cream should always be discussed with the treating physician.
