Is it possible to use Penaten® cream on open wounds?

According to the manufacturer, Penaten® cream should not be used on weeping and open wounds. Only in case of superficial wounds (such as abrasions, inflammations or light burns) the application of Penaten® Creme is suitable. For individual treatment of larger wounds, a physician should always be consulted. Usually, a comprehensive therapy for targeted wound healing is necessary.

Does Penaten® cream influence the effect of the pill?

An influence of Penaten cream on the effectiveness of the pill has not been reported in studies. Only a hormone-like effect of individual preservatives is discussed, but it is very controversial and could not be proven in any studies so far. It should be considered that only a very small percentage of the ingredients gets into the blood of the patient when Penaten is applied locally and superficially and can thus influence the metabolic processes in the body. An influence on the female hormone levels is therefore not to be assumed.

Is application possible during pregnancy and lactation?

The use of Penaten® products during pregnancy is possible. There are no study results or experience reports, which report of a harmful effect on mother or baby. Nevertheless the use of all medicines during pregnancy and lactation should be discussed with the treating physician. From Penaten® a special “mummy line” was developed, which is to support the skin during the pregnancy and after the birth. Due to the heavy strain caused by the growing baby’s abdomen, there is a risk of developing stretch marks. For this purpose, Penaten® offers special massage oils which stimulate the blood circulation and loosen the connective tissue, thus preventing the development of stretch marks.

Application to the baby

Penaten® Cream was originally developed for use on babies. Baby skin is characterized by a significantly increased sensitivity compared to adult skin. It is not yet fully developed in its functionality.

Only during puberty the development of the skin is completed. Due to a thinner, outer horny layer of the skin, there is a risk of rapid and high fluid loss. At the same time, babies’ skin contains significantly fewer functional sebaceous and sweat glands, which means that the skin can only be protected to a limited extent from external influences (e.g. pathogens or mechanical stimuli).

In addition, significantly less melanin is produced in infantile skin, which makes the skin much more UV-sensitive. Penaten® Cream was developed for these reasons especially for baby skin. It is characterized by its good compatibility. Penaten® Cream is used regularly, especially for the prevention and treatment of diaper dermatitis (soreness in the diaper region with rash and inflammation of the skin).
